1. If this is a double-locking
trem (i.e. you have a locking nut), make sure the guitar is tuned and
the nut is locked. Open the trem spring cavity on the rear of the guitar
by removing the cover plate screws.
2. Use a piece of masking tape on the
body of the guitar to mark where the front edge of the claw is currently
set. Remove all the springs from the tremolo and original claw. Remove the
two mounting screws that mount the trem claw to the guitar body and un-solder
the grounding wire from the original claw. Put the old claw in a safe place.
Keep the springs close by.
3. Using the long wood screws that came with
your original guitar, install the Tremol-No™ Claw/Shaft assembly. You'll
use the same holes on the guitar body that the original trem claw screws
went into. Screw the claw in until you reach your tape mark. DO NOT tighten
the set screws yet. The claw piece should be able to move a little bit at
this point. (Don't forget to remove the tape.)
4. Re-install the springs & setup
the guitar. Angle the Tremol-No™ shaft upwards and slide on the Receiver/Tailpiece
part of the Tremol-No™. Adjust it rearward until it reaches the main
casting block of the tremolo. Then angle the shaft and tailpiece back down
into the tremolo spring cavity.
-Tip: After the guitar is setup with the new claw, but before the receiver
is installed, lock the set screws on top of the claw. Check tuning. This
will tell you how much that particular guitars tuning will change when the
set screws are locked (Step 7). Adjust tuning accordingly and unlock the
set screws and proceed with Step 5.
5. Slide the Receiver/Tailpiece back until you can fit the pin of the clamp into the #4 spring hole on the main casting block of the trem. Make sure the clamping screw is loose enough so the Tailpiece can ‘offset’ and align correctly with the Tremol-No™ Shaft. Tighten the clamping screw at the front of the tailpiece. You only need to do this snug. Any harder than that, and you risk snapping the pin on the Tailpiece, damaging and/or marking your trem block, or even stripping the threads in the Tailpiece.
The Spacer Pack is to adjust the height of the Receiver/Tailpiece for clearance above the bottom of the tremolo cavity if necessary. 1mm and 2mm spacers are provided. They should be placed onto the pin, between the bottom of the Tailpiece and the tremolo block.
-Tip: Place the Reciever/Tailpiece onto the tremolo block,
but don't clamp it on yet. Dive your tremolo unit. Check the distance the
tailpiece raised up off the tremolo block. This will show you approximately
which size spacer to use.
6. Alignment between the claw/shaft
and the receiver/tailpiece is crucial with the Tremol-No™. Adjust
the claw screws very slightly until you have zero binding with the unit,
and can't 'feel' the Tremol-No™ when you use your tremolo. Remember
that when turning those claw screws, a little goes a long way. Tiny turns
can make the difference between 'feels alright' and 'perfect'.
7. Once proper tension is set via springs and
claw distance, and the guitar has been tuned to it's desired tuning, lock
the set screws on the top of the Tremol-No™ claw. These are very small
screws, so don't crank down on them too hard.
8. With the provided ring terminal, crimp the terminal
onto your grounding wire. Then, using the provided 3mm screw, attach your
grounding wire to the face of the Tremol-No™ claw.
Now you are ready to use your Tremol-No™!
